To Megan on her initiation into Alpha Phi

Parents were asked to write a note to their daughter to be read at the new initiates’ presentation. Her Big Sister, Elena Ortiz, did a wonderful job of reading it yesterday.

When you were just a fresh little baby
We hoped you’d grow up big and smart, maybe
Bathing you nightly and dressing you brightly
Raising you well, we never took lightly
We worked super hard to train you mentally
And spent loads of money to straighten you dentally
We pushed you to clean your room manic-ly
And took great care to feed you organically
Mom and I did all of this ever so dutifully

In hopes that you would grow up beautifully
Now that this work has come to fruition,
Here’s advice from who pays your tuition
Did your Alpha Phi sisters already discover
That you are quite the animal lover?
If that knowledge they have not yet surmised
You might give fair warning that they aren’t surprised
Should one day you bring back to the House
A new pet pig, or cow or a mouse.
Or have your new sisters already learned

You love getting T-shirts that must be earned
And any activity that results in a T-shirt
Is certain to get you to put in the effort.
Don’t let them find out this last bit of knowledge
Or they’ll use it to work you all throughout college
One last thought and then we are done
We are so proud of you, what you’ve become
You’re committed to hard work, yet you have fun
You make our small family the best we can be
We hope that’s the same for you and Alpha Phi

We love you, Megan.
